Wyclif CC Semi-final

Wyclif’s T20 team have finished on top of the ladder of the Topline Shield, and therefore have earned the right to host a home Semi-Final at Highfield Park. We believe we will be taking on Manningham (although this has yet to be officially confirmed).

Skipper Charlie Angley has led the T20 team from the front this year, and his charges are up and about, ready to represent the club with pride.

Come down and support the boys as they look to book their place in the Grand Final. The bar will be open, BBQ cooking, and the tunes will be blasting out of the speakers so make sure you come down and get into the T20 party atmosphere.

Nevermind WPL Game 3

Tonight the AFC/First Contact Mental Disintegrators take on the Superior Door Company Super Kings in a do-or-die WPL game at Highfield Lower. The winner will progress to the final (held in a few weeks time) where they will take on the Greater Group Love Bobs. Music and food will be on, the bar is open until late, and with the Australia Day public holiday tomorrow, there's no excuse not to come down!

Wyclif 1st XI Sunday game

The Wyclif CC 1st XI are playing a stand-alone fixture the first game after Christmas on a Sunday (7th January). Wyclif are taking on top-spot Koonung Heights in a one-day match at home at Highfield Park in the return fixture after defeating them in Round 5.

This fixture change allows for players from other grades to see the 1st XI play (in our new one-day tops), and a marquee game for all club members and supporters to get involved in.

The club will have a BBQ running throughout the day, the Bar will be open, and we will have some tunes spinning too. Make sure you invite your friends and family to come down and support the club and the 1st XI's big for finals.

Strength to strength in 2017/18

The club is off to a great start to the season with excellent numbers in the seniors providing excellent competitive cricket across four grades and a great group of enthusiastic juniors who have been doing us proud on a Saturday morning (including Lachie and Henry, sons of club legend William Curlewis!!)

It has been particularly pleasing to see the form of our 1st XI who are sitting just one game from top spot in the Howard Wilson Shield! This is a credit to Captain Alex Maunder who worked tirelessly throughout the pre-season to get this side to where it is today.

It is wonderful to say that we have a great contingent of sponsors who have made a massive contribution to the club and have been invaluable in helping us with our ambitious Wyclif 250 program. Once again club legend Jason Knott has signed up with his firm Knott Partners which specialises in accounting and business services, based in Kew, but servicing businesses across the state. We are also lucky to have the boys from the Konpira Maru Wine Company on board, their wine is as good as their award winning smiles. It will be available at Sponsors/Supporters Day (see below.) Check out our Gold Sponsors at the bottom of the page too! Finally I'd like to thank Stewart Eager who has generously provided the funds to reinstate the Wyclif Academy in the off-season which will provide an opportunity for 9 - 17 year old players to take part in a specialist coaching program.

We have some awesome functions coming up, including Supports and Sponsors Night on the 3rd of February. This is going to be huge with MC John Harms (The Footy Almanac; The Age; ABC) and special guest Merv Hughes!!!! This family friendly dinner is not to be missed and will be catered for by Something for Catering. Ticket details will be sent around soon.

See you around the club!

Wyclif Representatives!

Wyclif has always prided itself on providing a disproportionately large number of representative players, and this year is no different. We are proud to say Matt Bianco was selected for the Box Hill Reporter U21 and T20 side. and was joined in the latter by Reuben Williams. Both these guys contribute a lot around the club, bloody top work fellas!

Hundreds so far in 2017/2018

The Nevermind Wyclif Premier League

The first ever Nevermind Wyclif Premier League has kicked off this season with three franchises drawn from current and legendary Wyclifians, vying for the first ever Wyclif Premier League title!

Franchises have been bought by three sets of enterprising Governors; Bob Angley (Greater Group Giants), John Toward (Superior Door Company Super Kings of Highfield) and Ed Hartley/Ben Pilley (The First Contact/Appetite for Construction Mental Disintegrators).

Matches are played on Thursday nights throughout the season, with the next match on the 14th of December (probably when you are reading this!) from 5:30pm. Come down and watch some entertaining cricket and have a drink and a sausage!

Massive thanks to the Nevermind Bar for sponsoring the event!

Welcome Player/Coach Jason 'Spinal' Smith for 2015/16

Wyclif Cricket Club is excited to announce the selection of Jason Smith as playing coach for the upcoming season. Jason is a former member of the West Indies U/19′s side and has extensive experience playing in the West Indies and the UK, including at Surrey & Sussex Cricket Clubs. Jason is a 31 year old right arm off-spinner and middle order batsman, and is an extremely accomplished fielder.

Importantly, Jason is a Level 3 accredited coach, and has extensive coaching experience at the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre in the UK and the Barbados National Sports Centre as well as at numerous cricket clubs in the West Indies and the UK. He also has a degree in Sports Science and Personal Training.

With a young, talented core group of players coming through the Club, we felt it was the appropriate time to engage someone of Jason’s calibre to implement on-field and off-field structures and standards that will have long lasting benefits to the Club. Jason will work closely with First Eleven captain Alex Maunder to achieve this.

Jason will also have a heavy involvement coaching our junior teams at training and games, which is a great fillip for the junior club.

With Jason coming over from Barbados, we’re really keen for the Club to embrace him and make him feel welcome at Wyclif and in Melbourne. Jason’s already pumped to illustrate his culinary expertise at Table of Champions and with the West Indies touring Australia this summer we might have some special guests around the trestle table!!

Jason played in the U/19′s with Jerome Taylor, Dinesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo amongst others.  His mentor and referee is Pakistani great Saqlain Mustaq.   During his county career, he has played with international players such as Luke Wright, Matt Prior and Alex Tudor, and has played against players such as Moeen Ali, Chris Harris and Mark Waugh.

At Grappenhall C.C in the UK in 2012, Jason took 55 wickets at 10.42 and made 556 runs at 37 with 5 x 50′s and 1 x 100. Jason replaced former South African captain Graeme Smith at Cambrey C.C as their overseas professional after Smith broke his hand and was unable to play a few years earlier and had great success.

Jason’s best bowling figures are 9/68 and he has a top score of 160. He was also the winner of the prestigious Lord Garvin Award for most outstanding youth cricketer in the West Indies, which has an alumni of household names as winners.

Jason said on his appointment “I am very excited about my appointment as player/coach at Wyclif CC.  Having chatted to a few clubs no doubt I felt this was the club I can take to another level and also take my coaching to another level.  Obviously the social aspect will be a bonus which I’ll bring to the table with my tasty cooking.  Looking forward to the 2015/2016 season.”

Once again, please do all you can to make Jason (or “Spinal” as is his nickname) feel welcome at the Wyclif Cricket Club, and we look forward to a very exciting and successful season. Welcome
